Estero Big Box Store Rejected by County
Lee County commissioners rejected zoning requests for a big box store on land currently being cleared on the southwest corner of Three Oaks Parkway and Corkscrew Road. Ascot Development, the developers, have had to return to the original plan which was given zoning approval in 2007 for 234 residences and 90,000 square feet of retail use. The developer wanted to change it to 92 homes, 280,000 square feet of commerical retail space and 20,000 square feet of office space. Estero residents were concerned about car-filled roads and water-saturated land. The 48-acre property is bi-sected by an Estero River tributary and was recently listed as a floodplain in the new FEMA maps, but Ascot has been permitted to fill the site because the development order predated the adoption of the new map. Ascot are unsure at this time how they will proceed.
