An airport park in the works directly south of Southwest Florida International is one day expected to be the area’s largest, offering 1.9 million square feet of space — larger than Edison Mall in Fort Myers.

Development will occur in phases, with the price tag at build-out in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

The industrial, manufacturing and warehousing office park called Premier Airport Park will sit on 225 acres — roughly half a mile by half a mile.

Work is beginning on the first building, a 105,000-square foot structure expected to be completed in the fall. Though plans could change,13 buildings are expected to follow over time.

The site is accessed by Airport Haul Road, which is north of Alico Road and east of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway in Lee County. Construction is expected to begin in the fall for the Alico Road expansion from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Airport Haul Road.

The 276-acre property is bounded by I-75, Terminal Access Road and Ben Hill Griffin Parkway. Its south border ends where hotel, retail and restaurant development begins north of Alico Road.
